The Business Case for Diversity


Emory University School of Law will host its second annual Diversity Speaker Series panel discussion Monday, April 20. The discussion will be held in the law school's Tull Auditorium, Gambrell Hall, 1301 Clifton Rd., Atlanta. An opening reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Hunter Atrium outside the auditorium, and the panel discussion will begin at 7:00 p.m. A dessert reception will follow.

This year’s event will feature:

C. Ben Garren, General Counsel, North America, of The Coca-Cola Company;

Cathy Hampton, chief legal officer of the City of Atlanta;

Roderick Palmore, retired general counsel and executive vice president of General Mills; and 
Tom Mars, former executive vice president and general counsel of Walmart Stores, Inc., now a partner with Taylor English (moderator)

Discussion topics will include:

The history of diversity in the legal profession: Where have we been and how do we make progress?

The role of corporate and government legal departments in leading and advancing diversity as a core value.

What is the business case for diversity within legal departments?

Aiming for the top: Positioning oneself for board positions.

The Diversity Speakers Series is presented by Major, Lindsey & Africa and sponsored by Taylor English & Duma LLP and Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP.
