Low Expectation in District 7

UPDATE: Louis Harris and Sean Frantom runoff election on April 14. None of the three candidates obtained the required 50% of the votes to win on Special Election day.

AUGUSTA, GA (Anibal Ibarra) - Only 96 voters took advantage of the advance voting in District 7, that ended March 13, ahead of the Special Elections Day March 17. Sean Frantom, Louis Harris and Sonny Pittman talked to about 80 people during a forum. They are running for the unfinished term left by Donnie Smith, who might run again next year to regain his seat. He won’t face charges from the Georgia State Patrol for ethics issues, apparently.

The polling places in District 7 are listed below and will be open from 7:00 AM until 7:00 PM on Election Day, March 17.

Any mail out absentee ballot that is received by 7:00 PM on Election Night will be counted.  To date, 224 mail out absentee ballots have been issued.

It's difficult to predict what could happen with Smith political aspirations, but so far he was not indicted of any wrongdoing.

As for expectations for the 25,000 residents in District 7 it is seems low not only among the electorate but even for Pittman. He complained that some of his constituents didn't know there was a special election and that they belief Smith still is the Commissioner.
