Roe v. Wade Anniversary and No/Yes Vote

ROME, GA (PR) - Today marks the 42nd anniversary of the regrettable decision in Roe v. Wade.  Since that haunting opinion was handed down by our Supreme Court in 1973, over 56,000,000 unborn babies have been legally aborted.  This is a tragedy of enormous gravity.  It has impacted everything in our culture, from the psychological and spiritual well-being of our women to the cultural value of human life to the declining birthrate and economic consequences.

Georgia Life Alliance Committee calls on our President, our U.S. Senators, our Congressmen, our Governor, and our State Legislature to act with the power vested in them to confront this tragedy.

We ask the House of Representatives to Pass H.R. 7  – No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2015 to ensure that our national public funds are not wasted on this optional and unnecessary procedure. We also ask the United States House of Representatives to revive the planned consideration of H.R. 36 – the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act – and to pass this powerful legislation and restrict abortion after 20-weeks gestation.

Both H.R. 7 (Passed and President Obama promised to veto it) and H.R. 36 (No vote) promote respect, dignity, and protection of innocent human life.

“If we sit on the sidelines of this tragedy and do nothing, we affirm and condone the continued killing of our future generations.  The pro-life community and pro-life lawmakers must recommit, on this infamous date, to forward movement and to step-by-step combat against the evil of abortion. Both H.R. 7 and H.R. 36 are targeted to save lives and we should ask for passage of both bills,” said Emily Matson, GLAC Executive Director.

Contact your Congressmen today and ask them to vote YES for H.R. 7.  Also, ask them to request that H.R. 36 be placed back on the Agenda of the United States House of Representatives.

The Georgia Life Alliance advocates for the vulnerable, the abandoned, and the defenseless: the baby still in her mother’s womb, the orphaned child desperate for a safe and loving home, and the woman who finds herself in a desperate situation.

We will work tirelessly to bring attention and healing to the struggles of the unborn and other at-risk groups, endeavoring to help secure life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all Georgians.

No Vote

Today the full House was set to vote on the “Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act,” or HR 36, but there was no vote, scheduled to coincide with the 42nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, a symbolic date that typically galvanizes people on both sides of the abortion debate. The GOP-controlled Congress was expected to easily pass HR 36, despite the fact that President Obama has indicated that he will veto it.

“The GOP drafted a bill so extreme and so out of touch with the voters that even their own membership could not support [it]. That being said, shifting from one bill to restrict a women’s ability to make her own health care choices to another will not solve this political problem for the GOP,” Ilyse Hogue, the president of NARAL Pro-Choice America, said in a statement. Hogue criticized HR 7 for its effort to “restrict health care options for women and tax small businesses.”

“They couldn’t sell a ban on later abortions, so instead, under the cover of night they are targeting low-income women,” Jessica González-Rojas, the executive director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health, said in a statement.
