Reject Keystone XL Vigil

ATLANTA, GA (PR) - A vigil to ask President Obama to Reject the Keystone XL Pipeline now will take place January 13, 2015 at 6:00 PM, at the Corner of Marietta St. NW & Centennial Olympic Park Dr. NWAtlanta, GA, 30309.

The Nebraska Supreme Court ruled on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline, clearing the way for the Department of State to issue a determination and following that President Obama to make his final decision and reject the pipeline.

The local chapter of Sierra Club issued the following invitation:

The President promised to veto legislation approving the pipeline --and since the pipeline clearly fails his own climate test, all that's left is for him to finish the job and reject the pipeline permit once and for all.

As Michael Brune reminded us in a press statement, the Nebraska ruling and the house vote do not change the fundamental decision and that the President will be the one to make it:

"The Nebraska Supreme Court’s ruling has no impact on the President’s authority to make the decision to reject the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. Moreover, this court ruling does not change the fact thatCongress is pushing legislation that attacks the President’s longstanding authority to force approval of a dirty and dangerous project. Ultimately, the President has all the evidence he needs to reject Keystone XL now, and we are confident that he will.”

It's time for us to come together and tell the President loud and clear that IT IS TIME.  Time to reject the Keystone XL Pipeline.

Staff, volunteer leaders and Chapters are being asked to mobilize our members and supporters to attend the urgent Keystone event. This time last year we turned out more than 10,000 in 280+ communities nationwide to respond to the release of the Final Environmental Impact Statement.

Let's demonstrate that our commitment on this issue has only grown since then and send the President a clear message.  (This request is optional for staff and should only be done during work hours with the approval of your supervisor and after consideration of your primary work responsibilities.)
