Lots of Homework for Pringle

AUGUSTA, GA (Anibal Ibarra) - The new Superintendent of Schools in Richmond County, Angela Pringle, took a lot of homework from parents. During her second day of listening sessions for the community and faculty/staff parents presented her a variety of ideas on how to make public schools better in the county. The meeting took place at the Technical Magnet School.

The public recently had a chance not only to welcome but to confront Richmond County's newest Board of Education staff member, Superintendent Pringle at a listening session she organized at Richmond County's newest technological magnet school located on the campus of Augusta Tech.

Principal Kelly and several of her students graciously welcomed the public to the modern facility.  In a purposeful manner, Superintendent Pringle capably addressed the roomful of students, parents, grandparents and public servants, eager to meet her.

Questions ranged from inquiries about transportation for Magnet School students to solving the dilemma of delays that occur during placement of special needs students in the appropriate learning setting, as well as teachers shortcomings regarding classroom management discipline and safety. But the comments weren't all critical in nature.

Participants also bragged about the programs offered in Richmond County schools and made suggestions to create a campaign to publicize them. Meanwhile, PTA officials asked for the Superintendent's full support and offered to work collaboratively on workshops offered to the public.

The confidence and commitment to acknowledging the concerns of the public and a seemingly sincere desire to inform is refreshing. Let's hope today is the beginning of new possibilities for the Richmond County school system to finally shine.

Superintendent Pringle expects to "hold eight community meetings for school employees, parents and the public “to share their thoughts, ideas, and priorities” for the school system."”
