AUGUSTA, GA (PR) – Blueberry bingo, sidewalk chalk drawing, live music, fresh fruits and vegetables as well as hamburgers, hot dogs and barbecue, will be available at the Mid-Summer Picnic Tuesday, June 24, from 4:30-7 pm at AL Williams Park, 1850 Broad Street in Harrisburg.
The summer celebration, across from the Kroc Center Augusta, is presented by students of the Medical College of Georgia at Georgia Regents University, Augusta Locally Grown, and Good Neighbor Ministries.
Each Tuesday from March to October, the students’ Veggie Truck Farmers Market helps ensure that wholesome, locally grown food is readily available to the Harrisburg community, said AJ Evans, Co-Vice President for Community Service of the MCG Class of 2017 and Veggie Truck Market Manager.
Evans hopes the Mid-Summer Picnic will help spread the word about the ongoing healthy living initiative. “There will be a ton of vendors, farmers, games, activities, and more for the whole family,” Evans said.
Available products include organic and naturally grown tomatoes, peppers, squash, beans, onions, berries, melons, peaches, eggs, nuts, jams, and jellies. Master Gardener Phil Williams will be on hand to provide free advice about healthy growing, and Chef Charleen Tinley will give healthy cooking demonstrations.
Tomatoes, squash, burgundy beans, peppers, and basil from the Class of 2017’s garden will be among the fresh items available with proceeds benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Georgia.
