Cat-A-Van Reading Tour in Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA ((Staci Maiers) - The Cat is back in town! Augusta is the next stop on the Cat-a-Van Reading Tour, a multi-state reading tour that is part of NEA’s Read Across America celebrations. For the 17th year, the National Education Association has teamed up with Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. for the Cat-a-Van Reading Tour, sponsored this year by Renaissance Dental and designed to get children excited about reading.

NEA’s Cat-a-Van Reading Tour will make two stops in Augusta on the official Read Across America Day on Tuesday, March 11. Starting in the morning, students at Lamar-Milledge Elementary School, located at 510 Eve St., before heading to Sue Reynolds Elementary School, located at 3840 Wrightsboro Rd., later that afternoon. Hundreds of students will don the signature Dr. Seuss gear when they’re paid a visit by the famous feline—the Cat in the Hat. Along the reading route in the Peach State, NEA is bringing books and oral health items to children in need. And both schools will receive a grant to keep its library filled with books and other reading inspiration, courtesy of Renaissance Dental.

NEA’s Read Across America—the nation’s largest reading celebration with 45 million participating annually—has been revving up young readers for 17 years. The award-winning program was founded by NEA and Dr. Seuss Enterprises, L.P. Since Dr. Seuss’s March 2nd birthday fell on a Sunday this year, the official Read Across America Day was celebrated Monday, March 3 to allow schools nationwide to participate in the reading fun.
