Augusta Ready for Recovery from Storm Pax

SUNDAY 16, 2014: Augusta Richmond County has worked with The American Red Cross volunteers to close the shelter at the Richmond County Board of Education Bus Depot at 12:30PM.
As the number of people that needed shelter due to power outages has decreased and families have been able to return to their homes, the need for this immediate assistance no longer is needed.
The Emergency Operations Center will transition back to normal operation hours, Monday through Friday 8:30AM to 5:00PM. We will continue to monitor the number of those without power and provide information and assistance to those in need.

AUGUSTA, Ga., February 15, 2014– Today we start transition from response to helping our citizens recover from the ice storm. There are volunteer organizations that are experts in their field providing free assistance to our community. They will help cut fallen trees, remove debris from your yard, provide tarps for your roof, and provide emotional support during your recovery.

Each organization has their own training and credentials to do their job that they will be able to show you.

The organizations include First Baptist Church of Woodstock, the Mennonite Church, Samaritan’s Purse, Southern Baptist, and Team Rubicon. Volunteers will be coming around starting tomorrow to provide an assessment and start working soon after.

We encourage you to use these resources to start your recovery. If you choose to hire a contractor, make sure the business can provide you a copy of their business license and you sign a contract including a release of liability agreement.

You should not pay a contractor in advance of service provided. As these volunteers come through your neighborhood, we wanted to make you aware that they are trusted groups that are here to help.

Any questions, please call (706) 821-1155.
