Father Roy Bourgeois is a Vietnam veteran, priest and peace activist. He founded the School of the Americas Watch (SOAW) in 1990, after the killing of thousands of Central Americans at the hands of dictators and military forces trained by the U.S. Army at the SOA at Fort Benning. Ordained as a Roman Catholic priest in 1972, in recent years he has become an outspoken advocate for the ordination of women as priests. In 2012 the Vatican dismissed him from both the Maryknoll order and the priesthood for participating in the ordination of a woman.
