Multimillion Contamination Site in Augusta

AUGUSTA, GA - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GA DNR) propose to expand the cleanup plan at the Peach Orchard Road PCE Groundwater Contamination Site in Augusta. In September 2007, EPA adopted a strategy for cleaning up contamination in groundwater at the site.

EPA and GA DNR propose to address the soil cleanup contamination found at the site. The project will take 3 years to finish with several millions dollars paid by the federal government with fund collected from the contaminant parties (Dry Cleaners)  and taxpayers.

During a public meeting the people attending the information from EPA officials left the meeting with more concerns about their safety drinking contaminated water. Many questions could not being answered, such as why it takes so long a problem with impact in human lives to be solved and if we are drinking contaminated water.
