Dr. Azziz Bigest Accomplishments

Augusta, GA - Bringing the community together, the reborn pride in its residents and the shaking power of the owner of The Augusta Chronicle might be the greatest accomplisments of the obstetrician Dr. Ricardo Azziz.

Even though he is just doing what he suppose to being doing, hired to reorganize Augusta State University (ASU) and Medical College of Georgia (MCG), among other duties, and for that he has earned the most undespicable names.

Definetly Dr. Azziz in less than 2 years has helped to bring life to Augusta and has created a rearly and unseen alliance ever of diverse groups of people against him. That's cool.

One of the most interesting developments is that for the first time in decades of powerful influence the owner of the Augusta Chronicle, Williams Morris, III it is seem losing control in town. The 'batle of the giants' is just starting.

Beyond the change of name for the consolidated ASU/MCG/GHSU for Georgia Regents University (GRU) it is clear for some Augustans that the city is in labor of a regime change.

Students, parents and former employees, with public opinion support, from both institutions are demanding that University of Augusta be the name of the merged academics of high education.

Ricardo Azziz is the 8th President of Georgia Health Sciences University and CEO of the Georgia Health Sciences Health System in Augusta, Ga. GHSU includes the Medical College of Georgia, the College of Dental Medicine, the College of Nursing, the College of Allied Health Sciences, and the College of Graduate Studies.

Prior to his appointment as President of GHSU, Dr Azziz was the Helping Hand of Los Angeles Chair in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he also served as director of the Center for Androgen Related Research & Discovery. At the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, he was a professor, vice chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the assistant dean for Clinical and Translational Sciences.

Other past positions include former chairman of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s Advisory Committee on Reproductive Health Drugs; former member of the Reproductive Endocrinology Study Section of the National Institutes of Health (NIH); former member of the Independent Citizens Oversight Committee of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, appointed by Gov.
