Obamacare Could Save Augusta's Taxpayers

AUGUSTA, GA - About $20 million per year cost to keep insured 2,200 employees, about $9,000 per employee annually, just to cover medical plan. An on-site clinic could save around $1million annually on taxpayer money, according to a Wells Fargo Insurance Services consultant who recommended to the Richmond County Commission to approve HealthStat as the on-site clinic provider for city employees. The Affordable Care Act once implemented could eventually provide savings to taxpayers, was said.

Georgia is one of the 28 states plaintiff against the Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare or Obamneycare, that the U.S. Supreme Court upheld yesterday. The U.S. Supreme Court also provided the option to the states to choose to opt out of being part of the pool of insurance exchange. If Georgia choose to opt out the Augusta Richmond County Commission probably won't be able to receive the benefits of the Obamacare.

According to experts in the health insurance law, if Georgia opt out all the citizens in the state who do not purchase health insurance after 2014 will be taxed, and that tax collected will subsidize the insurance of the citizens of the states embracing de Affordable Care Act.

The Republican lead Georgia's government will have to make the tough decision of taking the Obamacare's pill or will have to explain to million of georgians why they are being taxed for health insurance that save lives in other states rather than their own.

Georgia Republican Party Chairman Sue P. Everhart released yesterday the following statement regarding the United States Supreme Court’s ruling on ObamaCare:

“Despite today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court, the Republican Party will continue to work for patient-centered, affordable and long-term healthcare solutions. We believe that the patient comes before the bureaucrat, and that the single most important relationship in the healthcare sector is between the patient and their doctor, not the patient and the government.

Mitt Romney has already declared his intent to repeal and replace ObamaCare on day one, and I am proud to stand behind his efforts. I applaud Governor Romney for standing up for our Constitution, and look forward to working with our Republican leadership across the country to provide common-sense healthcare options to all Americans.”
