Be There 4 Seniors Rally


January 26, 2012, at 11:00 am on Washington Street outside the Georgia State Capitol in Downtown Atlanta rally Be There 4 Seniors. Organizers ask to support recommended funding to keep older adults at home and to protect those in institutions.


All American Association of Retired People members who attend will receive a free red polar scarf emblazoned with the AARP logo.

Governor Nathan Deal recommends restoration of vital funding referenced in the budget as Elder Community Living Services in FY2012A and FY 2013.

Vision Impairment Services $177,859 - Mobility training and equipment for older adults with vision loss

Caregiver Support Services $405,556 - Non-Medicaid Home and Community Based Respite Services and $225,000 for Alzheimer’s Respite Services. These funds provide almost 62,000 hours of caregiver support.

Services include:
medical adult day care • in-home respite care • in-home personal care
support for caregivers • meals and groceries • help with transportation

Governor Deal recommends restoration of vital funding referenced in the budget as Elder Abuse Investigation and Prevention in FY 2013.

Long Term Care Ombudsman Program & Adult Protective Services $1,611,520 to prevent reduction in service to nursing home residents.

Federal funding used for the last 2 years during the economic downturn is no longer available.
